AerOS End User License Agreement
AerOS is distributed as open-source software. Cortlin grants you a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to:
- (a)Use AerOS for personal, educational, commercial, or governmental purposes;
- (b)Copy and distribute verbatim copies of the source code, provided you include this License Agreement and all applicable copyright notices;
- (c)Modify your copy or copies of AerOS and distribute such modifications, provided you meet all conditions listed in this Agreement;
- (d)Sublicense and distribute copies in object code or executable form under the terms of this Agreement.
If you distribute copies of AerOS, whether in source or object code form, you must:
- (a)Include this License Agreement with every copy;
- (b)Clearly attribute the original work to Cortlin and the AerOS project;
- (c)Not misrepresent the origin of the Software or claim that you wrote the original;
- (d)Retain all copyright, patent, trademark, and attribution notices from the source form.
AerOS and all associated source code, documentation, graphics, branding, logos, and materials are protected under the United States Copyright Act, Title 17 of the United States Code, and applicable international copyright treaties, including the Berne Convention.

The following acts are expressly prohibited under applicable federal copyright law and this Agreement:
- (a)Claiming original authorship of AerOS or any substantial portion thereof without proper attribution to Cortlin;
- (b)Removing, altering, or destroying any copyright notices, trademark notices, or proprietary legends;
- (c)Republishing AerOS under a different name in a manner designed to deceive users, without written permission from Cortlin;
- (d)Using the AerOS name, Cortlin name, or associated trademarks to endorse products derived from the Software without specific prior written permission;
- (e)Engaging in copyright infringement as defined under 17 U.S.C. ยง 501 et seq. Violations may result in statutory damages up to $150,000 per work for willful infringement under 17 U.S.C. ยง 504(c).
Cortlin complies with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), 17 U.S.C. ยง 512. If you believe content distributed under the AerOS project infringes your copyright, you may submit a notice of claimed infringement to Cortlin's designated DMCA agent.
"AerOS," "Aero OS," "Aero Operating System," and the Cortlin name and logo are trademarks or registered trademarks of Cortlin in the United States and/or other countries. This Agreement does not grant you any rights to use Cortlin's trademarks, service marks, trade names, logos, or other brand identifiers.
If you create and distribute a derivative work based on AerOS, you must:
- (a)Rename the derivative work and not use the "AerOS" name or any confusingly similar name without express written consent from Cortlin;
- (b)Clearly state that your derivative work is based on AerOS by Cortlin, and is not an official Cortlin product;
- (c)Include the following notice in all derivative works: "This software is based on AerOS, developed by Cortlin. AerOS is Copyright ยฉ 2026 Cortlin. All rights reserved. Used under license. This is not an official Cortlin product."
Cortlin grants you a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free patent license to make, use, sell, and import the Software. If you institute patent litigation against Cortlin alleging the Software constitutes patent infringement, all patent licenses granted to you shall terminate immediately.
- Install and use AerOS on any number of devices for personal, educational, commercial, or governmental purposes;
- Contribute improvements, patches, bug fixes, and new features in accordance with Cortlin's contribution guidelines;
- Package and distribute AerOS for use in hardware products, servers, embedded systems, or virtual environments, provided all terms are met;
- Use AerOS as a foundation for research, academic, and development purposes, including publishing papers and tutorials;
- Charge a reasonable fee for physical distribution media or support services, provided you make clear the Software itself is open source.
- (a)Sublicensing, selling, or transferring the Software in a manner that removes users' rights under this Agreement;
- (b)Using AerOS to develop, deploy, or distribute malicious software, spyware, ransomware, rootkits, or any software designed to harm or exploit users;
- (c)Incorporating AerOS into proprietary, closed-source products in violation of this open-source license without a separate written commercial agreement with Cortlin;
- (d)Using AerOS in connection with any activities that violate applicable United States federal, state, or local law.
Any contribution intentionally submitted to Cortlin for inclusion in AerOS shall be under the terms of this Agreement, without any additional terms or conditions, unless you explicitly state otherwise.
By submitting a contribution, you represent that you are the original author, have the legal right to submit it, and that the contribution does not knowingly infringe any third-party intellectual property rights.
Cortlin will make reasonable efforts to provide attribution to significant contributors in the AerOS project documentation and release notes.
TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, CORTLIN'S TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING UNDER THIS AGREEMENT SHALL NOT EXCEED FIFTY U.S. DOLLARS ($50.00) IF AEROS WAS PROVIDED TO YOU FREE OF CHARGE.
You may terminate this Agreement at any time by ceasing all use of AerOS and destroying all copies in your possession or control.
Cortlin may terminate this Agreement immediately and without notice if you breach any term of this Agreement. Upon termination, all rights granted to you immediately cease and you must destroy all copies of AerOS in your possession.
This Agreement shall be governed by the laws of the United States of America. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the federal and state courts in the United States. This Agreement constitutes the entire agreement between you and Cortlin with respect to AerOS. Cortlin reserves the right to modify this Agreement at any time; continued use constitutes acceptance of any changes.

AerOS Privacy Policy
When you contact Cortlin, submit a contribution, or register for any Cortlin service, you may provide personal information including your name and email address. We only collect what you voluntarily provide.
When you visit the AerOS website, certain technical information may be collected automatically:
- (a)Your IP address and approximate geographic location;
- (b)Browser type, version, and operating system;
- (c)Pages visited, time on page, and referring URLs;
- (d)Device identifiers and screen resolution;
- (e)Cookies and similar tracking technologies (see Section 4).
AerOS, when installed on your device, does not collect or transmit your personal data to Cortlin by default. Any telemetry features in future releases will be clearly disclosed and opt-in only.
- Providing, maintaining, and improving the AerOS website and related services;
- Responding to inquiries, support requests, and contributor communications;
- Analyzing aggregate, anonymized usage trends to improve user experience;
- Serving advertisements through Google AdSense and third-party ad networks (see Section 4);
- Complying with applicable legal obligations.
Cortlin does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for their own marketing purposes. Your data is not a product here.
Cortlin may share limited data with trusted third-party service providers who assist in operating our website, including hosting providers, analytics platforms, and content delivery networks. These parties are contractually obligated to handle your data securely and only for specified purposes.
We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or governmental authority, or where we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Cortlin, our users, or the public.
In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of Cortlin assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify users via prominent notice on the AerOS website prior to any such transfer.
The AerOS website uses cookies โ small text files stored on your device โ to improve site functionality, remember preferences, and analyze traffic. You may disable cookies through your browser settings; however, some site features may not function correctly as a result.
The AerOS website uses Google AdSense to display advertisements. Google AdSense uses cookies and web beacons to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve personalized ads based on your browsing history.
You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings or aboutads.info. You can also opt out through the Network Advertising Initiative. Opting out does not stop ads from appearing โ it means they will no longer be personalized to your browsing behavior.
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on prior visits to the AerOS website or other websites. These parties have their own independent privacy policies. Cortlin has no access to or control over cookies used by third-party advertisers. We encourage you to review Google's Privacy Policy for more information.
We retain personal information only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy or as required by law. When data is no longer needed, we securely delete or anonymize it.
Cortlin implements reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.
You have the right to request access to the personal information Cortlin holds about you, and to request correction of any inaccurate data. Contact us using the information in Section 8.
You may request deletion of your personal data at any time. We will honor such requests to the extent permitted by applicable law and our legitimate business needs.
Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. At this time, the AerOS website does not respond to DNT signals, as no universal standard for DNT compliance has been established.
The AerOS website and services are not directed to children under the age of 13. Cortlin does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately and we will take steps to delete such information.
